Mardon Holiday Home at first light near Inverness

About Mardon Holiday Home

A Highland home, opened to guests.

Wake up to soft Inverness light. Drive Loch Ness before the coaches. Come home to a warm kitchen and the door of a house that already feels like yours.

Our story

The house at the gated bend of the A96.

Mardon began as one family's Highland base - a stone house set back from the A96, behind a sliding gate and a peripheral wall, ten minutes from Inverness Airport and the start of the North Coast 500. When we restored it, we did it slowly, with local trades, and we kept everything worth keeping.

Today it opens as two independent stays: a two-bedroom Main House and a self-contained Executive Suite Annex. We host it in person - no property manager, no call centre. When you email, one of us replies, usually inside the hour.

This page exists because the accommodation is only half the reason you come to the Highlands. The other half is the drive down to Loch Ness at seven in the morning, the coffee at Perk, the walk at Aldourie, the fish supper at Dores. Mardon is where those days start and end.

Why Mardon exists

Somewhere to actually live for a week.

Hotels are for one-night city stops. Mardon is for the week you spend driving the loop, or the long weekend you finally take with the family, or the three days you stitch onto a work trip because you never got to see Loch Ness properly last time.

So the kitchen has a proper oven. The bedrooms have blackout curtains. The Wi-Fi is fast enough to work from. The parking is secure enough to leave the hire car unlocked. Small decisions, repeated - because a good stay is the sum of a hundred small things that were thought through.

Experience Inverness like a local

The Highlands most guidebooks miss.

After a decade of hosting we know which lay-by has the best Loch Ness photograph, which chippy Culloden locals actually queue at, and which distillery pours the most generous dram. That knowledge arrives with you - a hand-written guide on the kitchen table, and a WhatsApp thread that stays open all week.

Guest questions

Answered honestly.

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in from 3:00 PM, check-out by 11:00 AM. The four-hour gap allows us to fully reset the property between back-to-back stays.

How far is the airport?

Inverness Airport is just 15 minutes away by car via the A96 - ideal for early flights or late arrivals.

Is there secure parking?

Yes - secure indoor parking is included for multiple vehicles, behind a gated entrance and peripheral wall.

Are pets allowed?

Unfortunately we do not allow pets at Mardon.

Will I hear traffic from the A96?

Being right on the A96 is what makes the location so convenient, but some guests do notice road and rail noise, particularly in the front-facing bedroom - it's a fair trade-off to weigh up, and we'd rather you know that going in.

What's the minimum stay?

Two nights as standard. During off-season (February-April) we run a flexible 2-night offer with late check-in available on request.

Can I book the Main House and the Annex together?

The Main House and Annex are booked as two separate units, each with their own private entrance, kitchen and bathroom - we don't offer them as a single combined booking.

How does cleaning work?

A professional clean is included with every booking (~£140 per stay) so the home is fully reset for your arrival.
